A shelter for women in difficulty will open this summer

A group of women have united their forces to start up a lodging shelter addressed exclusively for Chateauguay women in difficulty. Translation Dan Rosenburg Rachael Eniojukan, Morgan Izatt, Jane Suk, Allison Grier and Shelley Winterburn are the instigators of this project. They are in the processs of finding a building to create 37 places this summer, according to Grier. ‘’The service is meant for women who have no address, new immigrants and those who have no fixed home,’’ she explains. A spaghetti supper will be held on March 21 at the <@Ri>Châteauguay Community Church<@$p> to thank the partners of the group which is registered under the name of Maison Melodie. The women admitted will be able to bring their animal companions. Vegetarian meals will be available for those who wish. The establishment will create three full-time jobs and three part-time occupations. The welcoming residence will be open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. A program of activities and workshops dealing with self-esteem will be offered. ‘’We want to follow the women who are living through difficulties for 18 months to enable them to build up their self-confidence and provide them with some tools in life,’’ Grier submits. The  Maison Mélodie slogan is  ‘’We love others as Christ loves us.’ The instigators want to collaborate with other groups who offer similar services, such as La Maison Sous les Arbres and La Re-Source, in order to create cohesion.
