Some pupils from Howard S. Billings High School, who returned from a trip to Italy on March 6, were finally sent home on Wednesday, March 11, the New Frontiers School Board announced in a communique. This decision was made following a declaration from Quebec Premier Francois Legault on Wednesday morning announcing that a directive will recommend a 14-day preventive isolation for all the school groups having visited a country at risk. “Although we have no official directive from the health agencies, in light of these remarks, the 18 students and two staff members from Billings High School (HSB) who returned March 6 from a three-day stay in Italy (Rome) are going home today, until we receive more information,” wrote Rob Buttars, director general of the New Frontiers School Board. The day before, Buttars had indicated to the Chateauguay Soleil that the school board was following the recommendation of health authorities who hadn’t yet recommended a voluntary quarantine. “The New Frontiers School Board continues to monitor this situation and work with Sante Quebec, Public health Canada and other governmental agencies,” Buttars said.
