(English follows) La Ville de Châteauguay a accepté les plans soumis par le Réseau de Transport métropolitain (exo) en vue de la construction d’un nouveau terminus sur son territoire. Les élus ont toutefois demandé que le futur stationnement incitatif soit aménagé sur deux étages plutôt qu’un seul. «Il est impensable que nous soyons obligés de densifier les populations qui sont situées autour de ça (le stationnement incitatif), alors qu’il y aura un espace asphalté pour 600 voitures, utilisé seulement 8h par jour, 5 jours par semaine, a exprimé le maire Pierre-Paul Routhier lors de la séance du conseil du 17 septembre. S’ils ne veulent pas, il y a un illogisme impossible à comprendre», a-t-il poursuivi. Les élus ont accepté la résolution autorisant les plans de réaménagement soumis par Exo, en formulant toutefois leur demande de modification. «On va entreprendre des négociations avec eux (exo) pour avoir un stationnement étagé. Avec un sous-sol ou sur deux étages. L’important est que ce stationnement prenne deux fois moins d’espace», a spécifié le maire. Ce projet fait «toujours l’objet d’études en lien avec la refonte des services de transport collectif prévue pour l’ensemble des secteurs Sud-Ouest et Haut-Saint-Laurent» spécifie Élaine Arsenault, responsable des relations médias pour exo. Concernant la demande spécifique de Châteauguay afin d’avoir un stationnement à deux étages, la responsable n’était pas en mesure de dire si l’exigence pourrait être réalisée. «À ce moment-ci, plusieurs scénarios sont à l’étude. Nous travaillons en collaboration avec nos partenaires municipaux afin de peaufiner ce projet au mieux des intérêts de notre clientèle et des citoyens de Châteauguay» a-t-elle répondu. Exo prévoit agrandir le stationnement sur des terrains qui appartiennent déjà à la Ville. Celle-ci a d’ailleurs autorisé, à sa séance du 15 octobre, que l’organisme de transport effectue des études de sol sur ces terrains en vue de réaliser son projet.

Terminus with tiered parking desired

The elected officials have nevertheless asked that the future incentive parking lot be arranged on two storeys instead of one. ’’It is unthinkable that we be obliged to increase the density of the populations which are situated around it (the incentive parking lot) when there will be an asphalt space  for 600 vehicles, used only eight hours per day, five days a week,’’ explained Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier at the council meeting of September 17. ‘’If they don’t want this, there is an illogicalness that is impossible to understand,’’ he continued. The council accepted the resolution authorizing the rearrangement plans submitted by Exo, while nevertheless formulating their request for modification. ‘’We are going to undertake some negotiations with them (Exo) to have a tiered parking lot, with a basement or on two storeys. The important thing is that this parking lot takes two times less space,’’the Mayor specified. (Photo:Le Soleil de Châteauguay-Archives)[/caption] The project in question consists of the permanent parking lot arrangement, the expansion of the bus loop (with 11 embarcation docks) and the construction of a service centre that will reunite a ticket office and a service centre for the clientele. This project is ‘’always the object of studies in connection with the remodelling of collective transport services foreseen for all of the South-West and Haut-St. Laurent sectors,’’ specifies  Elaine Arsenault, head of media relations for Exo. Concerning Chateauguay’s specific request to have a two-storey parking lot, she was not in a position to say if that demand could be realized. ‘’At this moment, several scenarios are under study. We are working in cooperation with our partnering municipalities in order to fine-tune this project to the best interests of our clientele and citizens of Chateauguay,’’ she replied. Exo plans on expanding the parking lot over lands that already belong to the City. The latter moreover authorized at its October 15 council meeting that the transport organization should make its soil studies on these lands with an eye towards realizing its project.
