COVID-19 : City to lay off more employees temporarily

The City of Chateauguay is going to significantly reduce its personnel because of the COVID-19 pandemic which is slowing down activities in all countries. Translation Dan Rosenburg This is in order to respect the capacity of paying some citizens, Chateauguay Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier let it be known at a special council assembly on Friday. The elected officials thus placed City director general Nancy Poirier in charge of evaluating all of the needs. The number of temporary layoffs will be made known as soon as the exercise is completed. The City has already liberated school crossing guards, stage technicians and temporary employees, the Mayor recalled. The municipality employs over 400 people. Workers laid off are admissible to government indemnity programs.
