Nine of the eleven school board commissionner positions available at the New Frontiers School Board have been filled by acclamation. Four candidates will be on ballots in two sectors in Châteauguay. Lina Chouinard and Mack Leduc are candidates in sector #3. Andrew Clark and Kenneth Crockett are running in sector #4. Voting is slated for Sunday, November 1st. Those interested had until Sunday, September 27th to submit their candidacy. Raymond Ledoux, Karin VanDroffelaar, Howard (Buzz) Gibbs, Abdul Pirani, Dianne Eastwood, Peter Stuckey, Barbara Ednie and Debra Wright ran unopposed. They represent sectors that make up the territory bordered by the Saint-Lawrence River to the North, Autoroute 15 to the east, the American border to the south and the border with Ontario to the West. English school boards still exist because the provincial government’s Bill 40 is currently being contested before the courts. The government’s decision to convert school boards into “school service centres” has been in effect since June 15th, 2020. While awaiting the court’s decision, the English network is status quo.
