Outgoing Premier François Legault was at Collège Heritage in Châteauguay on Monday, September 12th to make an announcement about Quebec children’s television programming.

Le Soleil wanted to know why the premier chose a private school for a press briefing when his government has poured large sums into the region's public school system, including the construction of the new elementary school De l’Archipel in Léry, and the expansion of Louis-Philippe-Paré high school in Châteauguay.

“It's a matter of availability, and it's also about showing the beauty of this building," he replied.
Legault met with a group of young teens to ask about their television and digital content choices. Although some named a few Quebec series, most referred to platforms like Netflix, Disney Plus and YouTube.

Afterwards, Legault announced his intention to supply $65 million to increase Quebec children’s programming on Télé-Québec's digital platform if his government is re-elected.

The project would allow the channel to add 100 hours of Quebec youth content annually for kids aged 3 to 12 on its platform so it can compete with major foreign digital platforms such as Netflix, he said.

Asked whether he had set a date to meet with the mayor of Châteauguay and those of the four municipalities that are part of the Régie intermunicipale d'aqueduc de la Vallée de Châteauguay as they requested, Legault did not answer.

“There are municipalities, like Mercier, which do not have the tax base to pay for the necessary work to provide drinking water for all their citizens”, he said. “There are others, however, that are doing other developments from which they will get new income that can pay for part of this drinking water project. So, it's on a case-by-case basis and we'll settle it through Municipal Affairs."

This is the second time that François Legault has visited the Châteauguay district since the campaign’s kick off. In July, he also introduced CAQ candidate Marie-Belle Gendron at Île Saint-Bernard.
