Chateauguay police delivered an incredible intervention on the afternoon of September 11. After having intercepted a stolen vehicle with four suspects on board, they uncorked gunshots into two tires of the vehicle when the driver attempted to take flight.

The scene took place close to noon on Friday after a citizen signalled the presence of a suspect vehicle at 11 St. Jean Baptiste Blvd., in the parking lot of Petro-Canada. «It consisted of a stolen vehicle, and there were four suspects on board when two police officers intervened, » said Chateauguay police lieutenant Guylaine Brisson. She explains that the driver of the vehicle at first complied by cutting the motor. But he quickly started it up again and tried to take flight when the two police officers were close by, outside their patrol car. The two peace officers immediately shot with their service revolvers to burst the vehicle's tires. The driver tried to continue his escape until he struck another vehicle which was circulating a bit further on, in the parking lot of a Chateauguay Dormez-vous business.

The police, who had called for reinforcements, then intercepted the four suspects who were arrested. « They consisted of an adult male, an adolescent male and two young women of minor age, » Brisson continued. « They could face charges of stealing a vehicle, hit-and-run and possession of drugs since a small quantity of cannabis was found inside the stolen vehicle. »

A woman injured in the collision.

The woman driver of the vehicle that was rammed by the stolen car in which were seated the four suspects suffered minor injuries and was brought to hospital.

An investigation is currently under way to reconstruct the exact circumstances of events. The Surete du Quebec intervened to assist Chateauguay police.
