Le Canada fêté sous le soleil

(English follows) Entre 3000 et 3500 personnes ont fêté le Canada à l’Agora citoyenne de Châteauguay, le 1^er juillet, selon Nancy Martineau, du comité organisateur des festivités. «Ç’a super bien été, les commentaires sont très positifs, les gens se sont amusés», se réjouit la bénévole. Une première édition de jeux familiaux a été très populaire, indique-t-elle. Quatre familles ont raflé des prix offerts par des marchands de la région. «Les spectacles tout au long de la journée étaient phénoménaux ! Les gens ont dansé sous l'Agora passé les 22h30 au son du groupe 4 decades qui fermait notre soirée!» souligne Mme Martineau. «Les barbecues se sont fait aller pour faire des hamburgers et hot-dogs etc, La barbe à papa et la crème glacée ont aussi été très populaires, en prime la température était de notre coté», détaille-t-elle. Des feux d’artifice ont donné le coup d’envoi aux célébrations dans la soirée du dimanche 30 juin au-dessus de la rivière Châteauguay. Quelques centaines de personnes se sont rassemblées au parc Marcel-Seers pour admirer le spectacle présenté par l’entreprise Feux d’artifice Léo Fiorito. La fête était organisée par l’Association héritage irlandais de Châteauguay et Vallée avec le soutien de la Ville de Châteauguay, du gouvernement fédéral qui a alloué une subvention de 4100 $ pour les feux d’artifice, et de nombreux organismes locaux.

Canada Day celebrated under the sun

Michel Thibault  Translation Dan Rosenburg Between 3,000 and 3,500 people feted Canada Day at the Chateauguay Citizens’ Square on July 1, according to Nancy Martineau of the event’s organizing committee. ’’It went super well,’’ the volunteer reported. ‘’The comments are very positive and the people had a great time.’’ The first family games edition was very popular,’’ she indicated. Four families swept prizes offered by merchants from the region. ‘’The entertainment was phenomenal all day long,’’ she marvelled. ‘’People danced under the Agora past 10:30 p.m. to the music of the Four Decades group that closed the show. ‘’Barbecues were used to make hamburgers and hot-dogs, etc. Cotton candy and ice cream were also very popular and, of prime importance, the weather was on our side,’’ Martineau reported. Fireworks gave the celebration a royal sendoff on the evening of June 30, high above the Chateauguay River. A few hundred people gathered at Marcel Seers Park to admire the spectacle furnished by the Leo Fiorito fireworks enterprise.  The celebration was organized by the Chateauguay and Valley Irish Heritage Association with support from the City of Chateauguay; the federal government which contributed a $4,100 grant for the fireworks, and numerous local groups.
