(June 2017) Love between two tots united two Chateauguay families which did not know each other, but which without knowing it had several things in common. If you believe Juliana Thomas and DeShon Weekes, you would swear that they are brother and sister as the chemistry is palpable between the two five-year-old children. « It’s been like that since they were 18 months old, » agree their mothers who were accompanying them to the park when Le Soleil met them. The two Chateauguay youngsters met each other for the first time at a day-care in LaSalle. The two families, without knowing each other, had opted for that community at the time rather than the South Shore. « It was because of the Mercier Bridge, » emphasizes Juliana’s mom Lucy Amoroso. « Since we worked in Montreal, it was much easier for us because of the traffic. » An attraction quickly developed between the two children. « They became virtually inseparable, » Amoroso explained. « At the day-care, they tried to put them in different groups, but that proved really difficult to do. It was a real crisis. » « It was as if they were comforting each other when they were together, » added DeShon’s mother, Valerie Weekes. » The strong link that unites Juliana and De Shon prompted their parents to learn to get to know each other. « I heard so many things about Juliana that I wanted to know who this little girl was, » Weekes related. The adults easily became friends, notably because they had similar origins. DeShon’s father comes from Barbados while Juliana’s dad is Jamaican. « Everything fell into place naturally, without any effort, » confide the children’s moms. Since then, the Weekeses and the Thomases are connected by friendship. Who knows how much time this « romance » will endure between the two Chateauguay little ones., but, for now, one thing is clear in DeShon’s head and his heart. « Juliana is my sweetheart, » he confides, a huge smile beaming up to his ears.
