Châteauguay MNA MarieChantal Chassé announced on Friday, May 20th that she is leaving politics after the end of her mandate. She will therefore not be a candidate for the Coalition Avenir Québec this fall.

Chassé said she will return to the business world. “My commitment to the Quebec of tomorrow is undivided. I am passionate about innovation, and I intend to get even more involved in it. I want to continue to help open doors for companies and organizations in the field of science and innovation”, Chassé, who is an engineer by training, wrote in a press release.

Prime Minister François Legault praised her commitment. “Her passion and know-how as a businesswoman will have directly contributed to the advancement of our priorities. I am especially thinking of her leadership in the development of the Quebec Innovation Research and Investment Strategy 2022-2027,” he commented in a press release.

Le Soleil de Châteauguay asked MarieChantal Chassé about her political future a few days prior to the announcement, but the MNA had declined to comment.

A rough start

Elected in 2018 at the same time as the CAQ government, Chassé beat former Liberal Minister Pierre Moreau, who had represented the riding for a long time. François Legault then appointed her Minister of Environment. She was removed from this function a few months later, due to “difficulties in terms of communication”. She then served as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Economy and Innovation.

“Moving from the world of entrepreneurship to politics was a professional challenge that I took up with openness, enthusiasm and conviction. I take away meaningful lessons from it. I wanted, and I still do, to contribute to Quebec’s future,” she wrote.

The Châteauguay MNA said she wouldn’t grant any interviews on the subject.
