The Obsession bakery in Châteauguay won the 10th annual Gingerbread showdown of the Marilyn Denis Show, broadcasted on CTV, on December 21st. The Baker and Owner Caroline Brunet brought the prize home with the Ginger barn she created. ”We created my dream home, explained the baker when she presented her masterpiece on television. We made a point of incorporating many different skills that showcase our pastry abilities.” For example, caramel was used to make a stone path, and chocolate became a little house roof and a windmill. Caroline Brunet was aided by her employee and friend Paige Harwood. Together, they faced the “twist” challenge from by Afrim Pristine, Judge and Cheese Master, which was to include cheese and “charcuteries” in the gingerbread creation. The women fabricated a doghouse and cheese stand. Then, with salami, the duet made logs beside a fireplace. A silo was also topped with an olive and prosciutto, the latter was also used for a snowman scarf. “That’s so great! I got my own stand in front of this beautiful barn. Very impressive” expressed Afrim Pristine, adding that Caroline Brunet pulled his “cheesy and meaty heart strings”. Visibility Anne Brunet, co-Owner of the Obsession bakery, confided to Le Soleil that it took many hours to prepare the Ginger barn. The team registered for the contest a year ago. They had to allocate time during their busy Holiday period to do it after being selected three weeks ago. The energy and time paid off. We’re proud to represent Chateauguay”, said Anne Brunet. The win also comes with prizes such as gift cards and kitchen appliances, which represents an $1,800 value. The Ginger barn is displayed at the Obsession bakery until Christmas. Unfortunately, since it was baked almost three weeks ago, “it won’t be “the best to eat”, shares Anne Brunet.
