The cities of Châteauguay and Mercier are participating in the Dandelion Challenge and invite their citizens to join them. The challenge is about holding off on mowing the lawn during the months of April and May to help pollinating insects.

English revision by Amanda Bennett

Unlike last year, when citizens were invited not to mow their lawns during the entire month of May, Châteauguay is advising this time to do it after the first flowering, to prevent too much pollen in the air. According to their respective statements on the matter, the two cities are committed to letting dandelions grow on several municipal grounds and green spaces, except for sports fields.

The Dandelion Challenge was initiated in 2021 by the beekeeping company Miel&co. The goal is to raise awareness among the population about the importance of pollinating insects such as bees.
