Le maire Tremblay en faveur d’un arrêt du train de banlieue à Kahnawake

(English follows) Représentant de la Rive-Sud au sein d’Exo, le nouvel organisme qui gère le transport en commun dans la grande région de Montréal, le maire de Beauharnois est en faveur d’un arrêt du train de banlieue à Kahnawake. «Ça serait facilement réalisable. Ça serait trois fois rien à organiser», a indiqué Bruno Tremblay, en entrevue au Soleil de Châteauguay le 22 mai. Le sujet n’est toutefois pas à l’ordre du jour de l’organisation pour l’instant, a-t-il laissé entendre. Et elle profite de nombreux appuis. La communauté autochtone est favorable au projet. Un sondage mené après d’elle en 2015 par le Conseil mohawk de Kahnawake l’a démontré. En juillet 2017, le député de Châteauguay et ministre Pierre Moreau avait indiqué qu’il s’agissait selon lui d’une voie à privilégier pour diversifier le service de transport en commun dans la région. «On devrait continuer de miser sur cette possibilité. Il s’agit d’un système de transport extrêmement efficace qui ne coûte pas très cher à aménager. Ceci puisque le train passe déjà par Kahnawake, et qu’il ne suffirait que d’y construire un quai d’embarquement et un stationnement incitatif. De plus, je pense que les gens de Kahnawake sont ouverts à ça» avait-il déclaré à l’époque. En campagne électorale, avant sa victoire au scrutin de novembre, le maire de Châteauguay Pierre-Paul Routhier avait affirmé que le train serait «son cheval de bataille». «Nous méritons autant que les citoyens de Brossard qui seront desservis par le train électrique de la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec», avait-il fait valoir.

Beauharnois Mayor in favour of suburban train stop in Kahnawake

It would be no problem at all to organize,’’ Tremblay indicated in an interview with the Chateauguay Soleil on May 22. The subject is still not on the organization’s agenda for now,’’ he noted. The idea to add a commuter train stop in Kahnawake for the Candiac line has been rumoured since 2009 because it already runs through Kahnawake. And it benefits from lots of support. The aboriginal community is favourable to the project. A survey conducted on the reserve in 2015 by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake showed that. In July of 2017, Chateauguay MNA and Minister Pierre Moreau had indicated that it consisted according to him of a privileged path for diversifying the public transport service in the region. “It consists of an extremely efficient transport system which is not expensive to manage.  This is because the train already passes through Kahnawake, and it would be sufficient to construct a boarding quai and a parking lot as an incentive. In addition, I think that the people of Kahnawake would be open to that,“’ he had declared at the time. During the election campaign, before his victory at the pools in November, Chateauguay Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier had affirmed that the train would be his ‘’priority battle.’’ «We deserve as much as the citizens of Brossard who will be served by the electric train of the Caisse de depot and Placement du Québec (Quebec`s pension fund manager)», he indicated.
